Bummer. Ok, so let's start looking for something else, instead. I know in my neighborhood alone there is so much need for good programs, but they need to be designed appropriately from the bottom up!

Best-

Tiby

I'm sharing a post from my blog: http://ayanabaltrip.wordpress.com

I inadvertently stumbled upon MIT’s Next Lab project’s web site as I was trying to correct an incorrect link a friend sent. What an interesting project. Their mission partly states: “. . . believing that the global dissemination of knowledge will rapidly bring well-being to those who need it most. . .The Next Lab project challenges MIT students to address some of the most pressing problems in the developing world through mobile technologies . . . economic empowerment, health, civic engagement, and education.”

Just posted to Inner-City Project Group:
Had a great meeting yesterday with Martha Estrella, Lead Teacher at Everett Middle School here in SF, and a dear friend. She is quite excited about the prospect of collaborating on a project with us.

She has a grant from Adobe which requires her students to create their personal narratives via video. This requires the students to learn the tools of Photoshop, and Premiere, and possibly Flash, as well as how to construct visual narratives by way of writing and the design process.

I threw out one possibility of collaboration, could be to have design, web production, and video/film students act as mentors helping her students develop their narratives, and then guide them in the creation of their videos. The final pieces would be showcased as part of Adobe's project, Youth Voices. The month of completion for these projects is April 2010.

I just posted some more thoughts to the Inner City Project group for discussion concerning this project I've proposed. I attended the completion ceremony of Inneract Project today, and was quite inspired to see what can evolve for the Inner City Project group here.

Below is an example of work done by one of the Inneract Project students:

Hey Ayana, I think there are many aspects of design thinking curricula in early education that most be considered to be part of every kids experience with creativity and problem solving.

Workshop: Social Impact Through Design Thinking at Adobe San Francisco

June 18, 2010 from 4pm to 6:30pm
Design Thinking has been defined as a process for practical, creative resolution of problems or issues that looks for an improved future result. Unlike analytical thinking, design thinking is a creative process based around the “building up” of ideas.Patrice Martin, Practice Lead and Systems Designer at IDEO, will introduce how IDEO is using Design Thinking for social innovation. Then you will experience design thinking in a hands-on “Introduction to Design Thinking” workshop led by former…See More
