Their mission partly states: “. . . believing that the global dissemination of knowledge will rapidly bring well-being to those who need it most. . .The Next Lab project challenges MIT students to address some of the most pressing problems in the developing world through mobile technologies . . . economic empowerment, health, civic engagement, and education.”

Had a great meeting yesterday with Martha Estrella, Lead Teacher at Everett Middle School here in SF, and a dear friend. She is quite excited about the prospect of collaborating on a project with us.
She has a grant from Adobe which requires her students to create their personal narratives via video. This requires the students to learn the tools of Photoshop, and Premiere, and possibly Flash, as well as how to construct visual narratives by way of writing and the design process.
I threw out one possibility of collaboration, could be to have design, web production, and video/film students act as mentors helping her students develop their narratives, and then guide them in the creation of their videos. The final pieces would be showcased as part of Adobe's project, Youth Voices. The month of completion for these projects is April 2010.
Below is an example of work done by one of the Inneract Project students:
