oh wow - that is a coincidence! Haha, yes I have been in touch with Carrie. It's great to hear that other DM students are pursuing service design. Been trying to network and keep in touch with people in our industry.
how did you come across SD then? Simply through the web?
Birgit Mager is good - but there are so many more! Have a look for Lovelock, Lockwood, Eckerseky, Samaloinis, website Design Continuum. Also have a look under the term 'service marketing' - just another term for SD.
I like your topic - i am sure it will be a very interesting time for you! yeah, the start is tough but the quicker to straighten out your title and have tight research objectives, the easier it will be for you. Let me know if you want to ever bounce off ideas, etc

I came across your profile and noticed you are currently studying Design Management at UAL. I completed my MA degree at LCC last December - you must be in the last cohort of DM! For my thesis I also focused on service design - by looking at creating an optimum model of design management and service design for micro design-led businesses in London. Your topic on how SD is paradox sounds very interesting, are you enjoying setting up your thesis?
I got excited to see another service designer emerging - especially from UAL. I would love to hear more about your topic.
