Marco van Beers is recently graduated for his Master’s degree in Industrial Design from Eindhoven University of Technology. He is a passionate and visionary designer/innovator with an enormous fascination for how design and (emerging) technologies could facilitate and support 'intimate communication' in the context of health. Often referred to as 'Technology for Empathy'. Through his designs he wants to show that there is need for radical innovations in healthcare.
Though quite young Marco has done several promising projects in this direction. For example “The Necklace” for cancer patients. A piece of evolving jewelry which helps breastcancer patients to share their struggle against cancer with their loved ones.
And "The Tokens", a tool which adds a new dimension in communication in the context of a severe illness. They connect someone with a severe illness with their social environment via subtle interaction and light.
His explorations in the field of (emerging) technologies and design resulted in several high profile publications and keynotes. Among them are two TEDtalks at TEDxMaastricht and TEDxTilburgUniversity.
