No, I do not want to create a new buzz word, or just create something of the sake of being different. Ecosystem Design is just a thought that was
creates during one of our discussion (Andre and Venkat) and is still quiet
preliminary.

So if there are quiet some possibilities that this term integrates into others or splits in new siblings during the joint discussions to come.

Let us start with definitions (we love them) of  the term "ecosystem"; the "common social knowledge" defines ecosystem at Wikipedia as "...consists of all the organisms living in a particular area, as well as all the nonliving, physical components of the environment with which the organisms interact, such as air, soil, water, and sunlight. It is all the organisms in a given area, along with the nonliving (abiotic) factors with which they interact; a biological community and its physical environment."

Or simplified it is the interaction of multiples system with multiples organisms, the physical, the human and the interaction (multiplied with itself).

So the interesting part of "Ecosystem Design" is that complexity plays a crucial role, which is simplified during the design process to new more contextualized and simplified premises. Due the complexity and interaction of system it also nulls time.

As we will never have the knowledge, when systems changes, when they will absorb new design premises time turns to be irrelevant. I cannot define when "next" is and when "after next" will be. Also, when we search with term the “after next” systems.

In business terms, it means, creating new businesses beyond the core, "avoiding" growing the core. It is born out of a "resilient system" that is the result of another design process. It is a consequence and a beginning, complex in the beginning and simple in the end, and finally it creates value for all parts involved in the new system. It is the understanding (partial) of the future; the future state of a system and the “nulling” of time.

Well, reading what I wrote, it seems that I transmit more a philosophical than a business origin of the term; however, it has a origin of duality, influenced by daily practical design work.

Finally, I would like to finish the 1st forum entry with the traditional and important question: What do you think?

Daniel, I'm new here and it was great to find this group. What you call ecosystem design it's actually a necessity due to the current challenges that our planet faces (global warming, alarming rate of species extinction and inequality in human population) Have you read 'Biomimicry: Innovation inspired by nature.' by Janine Benyus? she tackles some very important issues and calls designers to start listening to nature to develop new products and services.

Maybe one good example of ecosystem design could be the work of better place? http://www.betterplace.com/ they are rolling out a system for EV's trying to replace the existing  model for fossil fuel based transportation.

I would love to hear more of your ideas...
