might also be a good idea for these contributors to be encouraged to include examples in their articles. IMHO design thinking can collapse into bland-strategic-speak-ad-nauseum unless its illustrated by real world applications.
(did i mention IMHO ;-)
IMHO you are quite right. We'll have to ask them how they translate abstract theory into reality by giving us some examples from their work.
There seems to be some confusion! I think, Meena may have meant to use the term bland-academic-speak and not bland-strategic-speak. Strategy is about having a clear and simple plan (one based on an artful approach to the 'market', not just an analytical one) and moving that into practice. It's about the 'how to' not just the 'what to'. Without placing service design (or any design) within a strategic context no one will buy our services - because they won't see the value in it for themselves. Now, rambling on about the definitions of service design and the academic theory associated with it, now that is truly bland and of limited value.

Service design is really simple - sure there are some technical bits to it but in principle it's simple and we should try and keep it that way but in the context of strategy.
Thank you for straightening that out for us David :-)
And who would you like to have as a Guest Author?
What about Clive Grinyer http://www.clivegrinyer.com/

Clive is currently working at Cisco designing customer experiences. A thoughtful designer, well versed in a range of design topics.

There is an interesting video by Clive on making technology work at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1014154808870557040&hl=en
Dave Gray of X-Plane comes to mind. I heard him speak in May at Wordpress' Wordcamp here in San Francisco.
http://www.davegrayinfo.com/
http://www.xplane.com/

He's a visual thinker.
I have heard a lot about Shiv Visvanathan. It would be interesting to have him as a Guest Author.
Raymond Pirouz. You may find he is not quite in accord with design tinking as such, but dig a little deeper and I think you will find that the goals are simmilar if perhpas from differant perspectives
